Lessons on public speaking from Sex and the City

Recently I started rewatching Sex and the City—a series I loved in my 30s, probably because I was facing similar situations as the characters.

Now, with more mature eyes, a bit more wisdom, and experience in public speaking, this scene caught my attention—and I decided to give some unsolicited feedback.

Here is the video:

I usually start my feedback sessions with What Went Well, but in Carrie Bradshaw’s case, we have to start with What Went Wrong.

What went wrong:

      • No preparation: She rambled with no clear message.

      • Negative self-talk: “I don’t know why I’m here” = instant self-sabotage.

      • Fear took over: Her voice, posture, and gestures showed it.

      • No audience connection: She didn’t pause or ground herself.

What she could have done better:

        1. Structure her message (Hook – Point – Story – Wrap-Up).

        1. Use an NLP anchor to trigger a confident state beforehand.

        1. Reframe her inner voice: “I’m here because my story matters.”

      1. Ground herself physically with calm breathing and strong posture.
      2.

📌 Even the most accomplished women freeze in front of an audience. But confidence is not innate—it’s built.

I’m passionate about helping people overcome this fear and speak with clarity, confidence, and impact.
